Chiropractic Coaching: Should Chiropractic Change To Meet the Changing World Part 4

This blog is a continuation of an explanation that I use in chiropractic consulting on why chiropractic should or shouldn’t change to meet the changing world. I remember my first referrals. These were sick people and their lives were changing through the practice of chiropractic. What the heck does chiropractic have to do with back aches? Back aches are just an effect of a body in a state of dis-ease… let’s eliminate the interference not treat the effect… that’s what all the common ordinary doctors do already… and the numbers are not that impressive either! What I used to notice, before I was in chiropractic coaching and when I was a chiropractor, was that all people I saw had already gone someplace else first and they were coming to me because the other didn’t work!

Now I do not know what happened to me when I entered practice but it affected me for over the next three years… So, here I was in practice armed with a philosophy science and art and the experience of being a chiropractic patient. So with all my inner power and understanding of chiropractic I met the same public as I always had… My friends used to laugh about how I went to “get my neck snapped” to be healthier. Funny this is… I was and remain to be even while doing chiropractic coaching.

It seems it is becomes a bombardment of misunderstanding, and I see this while chiropractic coaching as well… No matter what I seemed to know the public is “conditioned to the allopathic model”, and talking vitalism is like trying to sell ice to Eskimos. It seemed to become very hard to tell the story to a public that just wasn’t interested and though I was principled and focused I began to witness a change in myself. I had become a chiropractor to Change the world… My mission in life was to see the perception of health change from the focus of mechanism to that of vitalism. People were showing up hearing the story yet leaving as fast as they came.

My purpose was unconsciously changing from saving the world to saving my ass! I was in practice, had bills to pay and my mouth to feed; it’s the same as I am doing chiropractic coaching now. I talked to some people and found out they were charging more for the extra service that it seemed people wanted anyway so they were making more money than I was and on much fewer people! So I began to explore giving them what they wanted. About this time, insurance was here and you could get money if you could learn to lie! I think they call it fraud, to make financial gain by telling an untruth but I felt that I was. I was supposed to give a diagnosis and treat that name for a number of times to eliminate the name. I was never taught this in school, I didn’t believe in it as it was only the manifestation of dis-ease and not the caused but the effect. If I wrote down what I believed to be the cause, I was rejected… If I wrote the effect I was rewarded. Well I hate to say that Pavlovian theory always seems to prevail.

So I learned a new word to survive… “Rationalize”. “Rational Lies”. I had to lie to myself why it was okay to diagnose and treat, and move from vitalism to mechanism… and it chipped at my soul!  Hey it may seem easy to think who cares it helps put gas in the Rolls! Stay tuned for more on this story from chiropractic coaching.
