Open Your Doors To Opportunity
Saturday, May 12th, 2012Every situation, properly perceived, becomes an opportunity. Distant pastures always look greener than those close at hand, opportunity lies right where you are.
You must simply take advantage of them when they appear. You can start where you are at any time.
Never compare others to yourself, because you are in the right place for the moment. It is all a process of growth and timing. To look at another and judge your accomplishments based on the outward appearance of another can be self destructive, and most often things aren’t as they seem.
I heard a quote this past weekend of a man two years out of Chiropractic school, who in just 24 months has become debt free and has $800,000 in a savings account. That world be an incredible accomplishment, yet the individual that heard it on the podium was now questioning their own success stature. The example of one’s accomplishments didn’t help motivate the other it helped one doubt their own worth, a destructive action.
We could be cinical and examin the claim of the speaker. Understanding business as I do, I would look at the claim and mention the un-likyhood of even the possibilities of this happening. A common person out of school would most likely have some sort of school debt, or they had assistance from family a trust fund, a prior career, or a windfall.
Not everybody has this good fortune. The new doctors I have consulted with seem to have an average of $100,000 in debt at graduation. To open a practice consider at least another $30,000 plus living expenses.
A bare bones office with one CA would cost $4000 per month. In 24 months you would have to bring in 524 new patients that averaged 50 office visits each and paid $50 per visit, of which you collected 100%. This would pay off your debt of $130,000 and pay the taxes, plus $4000 per month overhead and leave $800,000 in savings.
The new doctor having any other money to spend would be additional, and your one CA, processing 300 visits per week for the entire 24 months (that is from the first week of opening) is worth more than the $4000 your paying for an entire overhead her/is self.
Is it possible? Of course. Is it probable? Well the numbers don’t appear to be. So what benefit did telling the story do? None, it only caused the person to question them self. While they were (though very successful) light years from this alleged accomplishment.
Things aren’t always as they appear!
Success is all around you. It’s not in your environment, it’s not in luck or chance,
or in the help of others. Success is in yourself alone.
You don’t need more strength or more ability or greater opportunity. What you need is to use what you have. Learn to seize good fortune, for it is always around you.
Success is in the intention of the goals you set, the accomplishing of those goals, and the enjoyment of the process. You must create your success, it doesn’t come to you.
